Deerwood man convicted for illegal possession of firearms
CASS COUNTY -- A Deerwood man has been convicted of the illegal possession of firearms and other crimes.
The Cass County Attorney's Office said Carl Andre Raba, 43, of Deerwood, was convicted Friday by a jury on four counts of ineligible person in possession of a firearm, one count of fifth-degree controlled substance and one count of receiving stolen property with a value of more than $5,000.
Raba was arrested on Nov. 13 after sheriff's officers went to an address in Cass County to locate a woman with warrants. When officers arrived, Raba ran into a camper trailer and refused to let the officers enter, the release said. Upon learning Raba had outstanding warrants the officers entered the camper and found Raba in possession of a rifle.
Because of a prior felony conviction for a crime of violence, Raba was not eligible to possess firearms. According to the release, ammunition was found with Raba along with two other firearms and methamphetamine. After the arrest, law enforcement found the trailer to be stolen and also found other stolen items, including a pistol, two all-terrain vehicles, multiple trailers and numerous items of personal property.
Sentencing for Raba is scheduled for 1 p.m. July 28.
