Dayton appoints Albrecht to parks, trails commission
BEMIDJI — Gov. Mark Dayton on Monday appointed Bemidji Mayor Rita Albrecht to the new Greater Minnesota Regional Parks and Trails Commission.
The commission was formed and funded through the Legislature as a way to ensure greater Minnesota has a say in how Legacy funds are allocated for parks and trails. For many years, much of parks and trails funding was dedicated to metro-area counties and projects, Albrecht said, and the commission will be a way to make sure outstate Minnesota is better represented.
Albrecht was recruited to put her name forward, she said. “I’m very excited to be on the commission ... it is an honor to be appointed by the governor,” she said.
Albrecht and Bryan Pike, natural resource manager with Crow Wing County, will represent District 2 on the 13-member commission.
Her term on the board ends in January 2016.
