David Ellingson

David Lee Ellingson, of Champlin and Waskish (MN), died Saturday, August 10, 2013, at Hopkins, MN, after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer's.He was born January 25, 1944, to Marion and Laura (Miller) Ellingson, in Breckenridge (MN) and grew up in the Tintah-Wendell area. On July 26, 1969, he married the love of his life, Helen Behrens of Lakeland, at St. John's Catholic Church in Biwabik. A graduate of Moorhead State University, David began his career in education at the Kenosha Public Schools in Wisconsin where he excelled as an effective and popular industrial arts teacher. Returning to Minnesota, he continued his career as both teacher and administrator in Austin, Bemidji, Greenbush and the state of Maine. Following his early retirement due to an injury on the job, David and his wife enjoyed life at Waskish where fishing on Red Lake became a favorite pastime. What David loved best, however, was just being at home with his family. Two years ago, he and his wife moved to the Cities to be closer to their grandchildren.David is survived by his wife of 44 years, Helen; sons Christopher Erik (fiancee Jerri Richards and her children, Ethan and Ty) of Pierre (SD), David, Jr., (Julie) of Dakota Dunes (SD), and daughter Jennifer (Nick) Orsen of Brooklyn Park (MN); grandchildren Koby and Casey Ellingson, Hannah and Tony Ellingson, and Sophia and Amelia Orsen. He was preceded in death by his parents, Marion and Laura. A celebration of David's life will be held at the First Memorial Funeral Chapel in Brooklyn Park, 7835 Brooklyn Boulevard, on Wednesday, August 14, at 11:00 A.M., with visitation one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be at a later date in Wendell, MN.
