Daryl A. Sells

Daryl A. Sells, 74, of Akeley, died Monday, March 30, 2009 at Innovis Hospital in Fargo, N.D.

She was born on Oct. 3, 1934 in Minneapolis to Mark and Anneleise (Ebner) Smith. She attended Ascension Catholic Elementary School in Minneapolis through the eighth grade and then attended North High School, graduating in 1952.

In 1954, she married David R. Kalla in Minneapolis. They had six children. The young family made their home in Minneapolis. For a number of years she drove taxi for the Yellow Taxi Co. in Minneapolis. In the early 1970s, she started a residential cleaning business, which she operated throughout the Minneapolis area. In 1977, she ventured northward to the Akeley area where she worked several seasons at Badoura Nursery and later cleaned cabins until her retirement.

In 1982 she married Norris "Nick" Sells in Oregon.

She is survived by five children: Peggy Blanton, of Deer Park, Wis., David Kalla, of Minneapolis, Patrick Kalla and Marcy (Ray) Phillippi, both of Akeley, and James (Gail) Kalla, of Nevis; a step-son, Logan Sells, of Park Rapids; 20 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two brothers: John (Carol) Smith and James Smith, all of Minneapolis; as well as many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Norris "Nick" Sells in 2003; her son, John Kalla in 2006; and a brother, Mick.

Memorial service: 11 a.m. Saturday, April 25 at Our Lady of the Pines Catholic Church in Nevis with Father Duane Pribula and Pastor Chris Conger officiating.

Visitation: One hour prior to the service at the church.

Interment: Next to her son, John, in White Oak Cemetery near Chamberlain.
