Daniel L. Thielen, 50, of Rochert, died Saturday, February 7, 2009 in his home, under the care of his loving family.

Daniel Lee Thielen, known as "Dip," was born to Leonard and Estella (Metzger) Thielen on March 24, 1958 in Detroit Lakes. He was baptized and confirmed at Assumption Catholic Church in Callaway. Dan attended Callaway Elementary School and was a 1976 graduate of Detroit Lakes High School. He married Laura Stone on Sept. 17, 1977 in Underwood, Minn.

Dan was a self-employed contractor and worked for many of the area building companies, the last nine of those years with Foltz Buildings. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, softball, horseshoes, pool, golf, snowmobiling, skiing, bowling, his dog Lucky, concerts, camping, dancing, "Farkel," making people smile and helping others. He was a member of the Callaway Fire Department, Knights of Columbus and the Elks.

Surviving Dan are his three sons, Josh (Maren) Thielen of Minnetonka, Minn., Casey and Chris Thielen, both of Rochert; one granddaughter; parents, Leonard and Estella Thielen of Detroit Lakes; four sisters and five brothers, Sharon (Dave) Siekas of Brainerd, Marcia (John) Baumgartner of Wheaton, Ill., Peter (Jayne) Thielen and Mike (Sara) Thielen, both of Detroit Lakes, Pat (Jane) Thielen of Lino Lakes, Minn., Brenda (Kevin) Willard of Wyoming, Minn., Kurt (Winny) Thielen of Maple Grove, Minn., Mary (Brad) Vonruden of Rochert and Craig (Kathy) Thielen of Corcoran, Minn.; his companion, Cheryl "Annie" Jackson of Ogema and her children.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 12 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Detroit Lakes; there will be a Knights of Columbus rosary at 6:30 p.m. and parish vigil at 7 p.m.

Funeral services are scheduled for 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 13 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, with Father Jerry Rogers and Monsignor Mike Foltz officiating. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Callaway.
