Daniel P. Shulstad, 50, of Pelican Rapids, died as a result of cancer on Tuesday, October 14, 2008, at the MeritCare Palliative Care Unit in Fargo.
Daniel Paul Shulstad was born the son of Thomas and Ann Marie (Nelson) Shulstad on Jan. 6, 1958 in Moorhead. He was baptized at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Barnesville, and was confirmed at North Immanuel Lutheran Church in rural Pelican Rapids.
Danny graduated from Pelican Rapids High School in 1976. He furthered his education at the Wadena Technical School and then moved to Martin, S.D., where he worked in telephone communications. On Dec. 27, 1977, Danny married Sue Miller. Sue joined Danny in Martin until 1979, when they moved back to the Miller farm near Pelican Rapids. Danny operated the dairy farm from that time until his death.
Danny loved spending time with family and friends, especially during the holidays. He enjoyed many hobbies: watching NASCAR, cooking, hunting, parties, gardening and playing cards. Talented, with a passion for carpentry, he built his family home and family lake home. Danny will be remembered for his sense of humor.
Surviving Danny are his wife, Sue; son, Joe and daughter, Katie, both of Pelican Rapids; parents, Thomas and Ann Marie Shulstad, also of Pelican Rapids; six siblings, Tom (Jane) Shulstad of Pelican Rapids, Karl (Pat) Shulstad of Pelican Rapids, Sheila (Russell) Emerson of West Fargo, Philip (Robbie) Shulstad of Pelican Rapids, Jackie (Mark) Scott of Pelican Rapids and David (Christie) Shulstad of Pelican Rapids; mother-in-law Helen Miller; numerous nieces, nephews and three great nieces.
Preceding Danny in death was his father-in-law, Joseph "Joe" Miller.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17, at Larson Funeral Home, Pelican Rapids.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, at Grove Lake Lutheran Church, rural Pelican Rapids, with the Rev. Jim McBride officiating. Burial will follow at Grove Lake Cemetery, Pelican Rapids.
