Curtis Lee Lindell

Curtis Lee Lindell, 69, of Solway, MN, died Tuesday, February 25, 2014 at the Fargo VA Hospital.

Funeral Services will be 2:00 p.m., Monday, March 3, 2014 at the Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home in Bemidji with Pastor Kent Dudley officiating. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m., Sunday, March 2, 2014 at the Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be in Meadowview Cemetery, Solway, MN in the spring.

Curtis Lee Lindell was born January 16, 1945 in Duluth, Minnesota to Arnold and Emma Lindell. He grew up in Solway and attended the Solway Elementary School. He graduated from Bemidji High School in 1963. After high school he went to work for Dibble Chevrolet and Buick as a bookkeeper at first and then into car sales. He joined the US Navy in 1967 at the time of the Vietnam War and was stationed with the 6th Fleet on the missile cruiser U.S.S. Little Rock. He was a staff sergeant and worked in communication and intelligence. After discharge from the Navy he worked for Bob Lowth Ford as a manager of used car sales. Later he opened his own used car business on Midway Drive. After that he went into real estate and worked for Kittleson Realty World and later 1st Reality GMAC specializing in commercial real estate. He retired to his home in Solway in 2009 and worked part time as a rural mail carrier for the US Postal Service.

As a teenager he played steel guitar in the band The Junior Rhythm Ramblers playing country western music at local dances. All his life he had a passion for fishing, especially for winter lake trout in Northwest Ontario with his buddies and summers at his camper at Miley's Resort in Morson, Ontario.

He enjoyed cooking and did a lot of it for the Eagles Club of which he was past president and Minnesota State Eagle of the year in 1983. He also enjoyed his deer camp for many years with his family and friends.

He is survived by his soul mate and partner of 23 years, LaDonna Pope of Solway; son, Brad (Sheila) Lindell of Bemidji, daughter, Cheryl (Michael) Kempf of Forest Lake, MN, son Brian (Margaret) Lindell Declusin of Woodland, CA, sister Janice (James) Naylor, grandchildren Michael and Brady Lindell, Kayla Tollefson, and Justin, Kelsey, and Katy Kempf, along with several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Also survived by LaDonna's children Corina Shepersky, Solway MN and Dale (Annette) Pope, Menagha, MN and LaDonna's six grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father Arnold Lindell, his mother Emma Lindell, two brothers, Ervin and Douglas Lindell, and grandson Matthew Lindell.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to our local Veteran Affairs office with a special thank you to Scotty Allison and to all the doctors and nurses who showed such care and compassion to Curt at the Veterans Hospital in Fargo. It was a comfort to the family to know he was in such good care.
