CURLING: Ressley rink opens with victory

GREEN BAY, Wis. — One Bemidji curler was on the winning end Saturday night in the opening draw of the USA Curling National Championships.

The Laura Roessler rink of Trempealeau, Wis., defeated Cristin Clark of Lynnwood, Wash., 8-2 as the women’s team opened play. Jamie Haskell of Bemidji is a member of the Roessler rink.

Another Bemidji curler, Natalie Nicholson, was on the losing end of a 5-3 score as her Allison Pottinger rink of Eden Prairie, Minn., fell to Patti Lank of Lewiston, N.Y.

Pete Fenson of Bemidji opened play later Saturday night against Craig Brown of Madison, Wis.

In other women’s results Saturday, Alexandra Carlson of Wayzata, Minn., topped Shelly Kinney of Champlin, Minn., 6-4; Courtney George of Duluth defeated Sarah Anderson of Broomall, Pa., 10-3; and Becca Hamilton of McFarland, Wis., edged Erika Brown of Madison, Wis., 8-7.
