Cross country: Truedson fifth at Roy Griak Invitational
ST. PAUL – The Bemidji High School cross country teams competed at the 27th Annual Roy Griak Invitational Saturday, hosted by the University of Minnesota.
The Lumberjacks ran well in the high school division, with the girls finishing 27th out of 44 teams in the Gold Division (677 points) and the boys placing 25th out of 44 in the Gold Division (667 points).
“The girls ran pretty solid,” BHS head coach Ryan Aylesworth said. “The boys did OK. I think maybe the head got to them a little bit. They started a little fast.”
Temperatures were in the mid-80s for the race in Minneapolis, but overall the teams were able to overcome that and run well.
As a team, the Lumberjack boys improved on their finish from last season’s race, while the girls finished in the same place.
Jenna Truedson led the way for the Lumberjack girls, finishing sixth overall with a time of 18 minutes, 48.8 seconds in the 5K race. Maria Hauger of Shakopee paced the girls race with a time of 17:50.0.
