The Lumberjacks boys team took second out of 19 teams and the girls team took fifth out of 18 Thursday afternoon.

The boys team scored 107 points to Perham's 57 to notch second place. Bemidji's Sam Carlson took second overall in the race with a time of 16 minutes, 5 seconds.

"It was a step in the right direction for the boys," BHS head coach Ryan Aylesworth said. "We were the top team out of all the teams in our section at this meet. I was impressed with how the boys came back from last week's meet."

Aside from Carlson, two other Lumberjacks finished in the top 20 -- Caleb Appleton was 17th with a time of 16:57 and Billy Freyholtz WAS 20TH at 17:02.

Perham's Keegan Hawley was first overall with a time of 15:30; the Yellowjackets had runners place first, third and fourth to reach 57 points and first place.

In the girls race, Bemidji took fifth place with a score of 120; Saretll-St. Stephen won the meet with a score of 81. Alexandria, Grand Rapids and St. Cloud Cathedral also finished ahead of Bemidji.

The Lumberjacks were without top runner Jenna Truedson in the meet, but Aylesworth said despite that they still finished with a good showing.

"The girls ran very well today," Aylesworth said. "We were without our top performer in Jenna; if she would have been here today we would have been in the hunt for first. But the other girls still ran very well."

Sadie Hamrin had the top time for Bemidji, finishing fourth with a time of 15:01. Megan Serratore was also in the top ten with a time of 15:21. Atomic Thorson was just outside the top 20, clocking in at 15:52.

Alexandria's Megan Hass paced the field with a time of 13:58.

The Lumberjacks are off for a week until next Saturday, Sept. 21 when they'll travel to the Milaca Mega Meet.
