The officer responded just after 10 a.m. to 117 S. Lincoln Ave. where the dog was not allowing Brenda Harmon to get out of her vehicle, according to a department news release. The black colored dog reportedly began barking and growling upon seeing the officer, who radioed for back up, the release said.

Harmon was able to leave while the dog became more aggressive toward the officer who had his back up against the wall of a house, according to police. Fearing for his safety, the officer shot and killed the dog, owned by Daniel Reyes of 113 S. Lincoln Drive, the release said.
