Court Report: Sentencings for May 27

The following cases were heard on May 27, 2014 by Beltrami District Judge Paul T. Benshoof:

Shawn Lee May, 42, of Red Lake was sentenced for domestic assault to 365 days in the Beltrami County Jail of which 275 days are stayed for two years. May must serve 90 days and has been credited with 60 days time served. May has been placed on two years supervised probation and must pay a $500 fine which may be done through community service. May was also sentenced for violating a no contact order to 21 months in the Minnesota Correctional Facility in St. Cloud for 21 months which has been stayed for five years. He must serve 90 days and was credited with 60 days time served. May has been placed on five years supervised probation and must pay a $300 fine which may be done through community service.

Edwin Lee Johnson, 42, of Bemidji was sentenced for felony fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle to 12 months and one day in the Minnesota Correctional Facility in St. Cloud. He has been credited with 97 days time served. Johnson must pay a $50 fine.

Summer Sage Johnson, 18, of Bemidji was sentenced for fifth-degree possession of marijuana to 15 days in the Beltrami County Jail which may be done on work release if eligible. She has been placed on five years supervised probation upon successful completion of which will result in a dismissal of the charge.

John Keith Obeirne, 44, of Shevlin was sentenced for third-degree DWI to 365 days in the Beltrami County Jail of which 355 days are stayed for two years. Obeirne must serve 10 days and has been credited with four days time served. He has been placed on two years court probation and must pay a $400 fine.

John Joseph Waslaski, 40, of Bemidji was sentenced for felony first-degree sale of methamphetamine to 94 months in the Minnesota Correctional Facility in St. Cloud. Waslaski has been credited with 180 days time served. He must pay a $50 fine.

The following cases were heard on May 27, 2014 by Beltrami District Judge John G. Melbye:

Harvey Sullivan Bonga, 48, of Ponsford was sentenced for third-degree DWI to 365 days in the Beltrami County Jail of which 350 days are stayed for three years. Bonga must serve 15 days and may do so on work release or sentence to serve if eligible. He has been credited with three days time served. Bonga has been placed on three years court probation and must pay a $500 fine which may be done through community service.

Adrian Bruce Johnson, 37, of Cass Lake was sentenced for second-degree DWI to 365 days in the Beltrami County Jail of which 320 days are stayed for four years. Johnson must serve 45 days and may do so on work release or sentence to serve if eligible. Johnson has been placed on four years court probation and must pay a $1,000 fine.

Michael Patrick Morris, 52, of Cass Lake was sentenced for escape from custody to 365 days in the Beltrami County Jail of which 335 days are stayed for two years. Morris must serve 30 days. He has been placed on two years court probation. Morris must pay a $500 fine.
