Court report: Sentencings for Dec. 23

The following cases were heard Dec. 23 by Beltrami District Judge John G. Melbye:

Sam Robert Strassener, 29, of West St. Paul was sentenced for third-degree DWI to 365 days in the Beltrami County Jail of which 355 days are stayed for two years. Strassener must serve 10 days and may do so in another county prior to March 1 if at no cost to Beltrami County. Strassener has been placed on two years court probation and must pay a $750 fine.

Brittany Rose Johnson, 28, of Red Lake was sentenced for two counts of felony fifth-degree sale of a controlled substance to 76 days in the Beltrami County Jail of which she has been credited for 76 days time served. Johnson has been placed on five years supervised probation for five years and must pay a $1,000 fine. The $1,000 fine for the first count is stayed if there are no probation violations after one year of probation. The $1,000 fine for the second charge is stayed for two years if there are no probation violations within the second year of probation. Successful completion of probation will result in misdemeanor convictions. Johnson was also sentenced for felony theft to 76 days in the Beltrami County Jail which has been served. She has been placed on five years supervised probation and must pay a $1,000 fine. The third fine is stayed if no violations within the third year of probation. Successful completion of probation will result in a misdemeanor conviction of the theft charge.

Adam Joseph Ams, 37, of Blackduck was sentenced for third-degree DWI to 365 days in the Beltrami County Jail of which 320 days are stayed for three years. Ams must serve 45 days and may do so on work release if eligible. He has been credited for four days time served. Ams has been placed on three years court probation and must pay a $750 fine.
