Beltrami County might eliminate the homemaking services provided to the people who are elderly or disabled.

The Beltrami County Board will continue the discussion of a staged implementation plan for potential discontinuation of the services during its regular meeting at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15, in the County Board Room, County Administration Building, 701 Minnesota Ave. N.W.

Beltrami County Health and Human Services Director Mary Marchel suggested the move during the Sept. 3 meeting for a $105,921 county levy savings. Commissioners asked for more information and several expressed concern whether people in need have other assistance outside county services. Marchel noted that three commercial homemaking services are available in the county.

In other business, the County Board will take action on reappointing Tyler Koos as county engineer. He was initially appointed by the County Board for a one-year period and then for a four-year period. The reappointment would be for a four-year term. The salary has been budgeted. Koos' appointment as county engineer ends Oct. 9.

Prior to the regular board meeting, the county commissioners will meet for a work session at 3 p.m. in the Commissioners' Conference Room.

Work session items for discussion include an update on Paul Bunyan Drug Task Force activities, a review of the Paul Bunyan Transit cost allocation and the Veterans Service Officer quarterly report.
