Elaine and Glen Thies of East Bethel, Minn., announce the engagement of their daughter, Katie Thies, to Shane Corning, son of Debbie and Allyn Corning of Valparaiso, Ind.

Katie is a 2009 graduate of Bemidji State University and is a certified nursing assistant at Cornerstone Rehab and Nursing Center.
Shane is a 2000 graduate of Bemidji State University and is the physics and chemistry teacher at Mahnomen High School.
