COLLEGE HOCKEY: Ferris, Minnesota State make tourney
INDIANAPOLIS — Minnesota received the overall No. 1 seed in the NCAA men’s hockey tournament while the WCHA will be represented in the 16-team field by Ferris State and Minnesota State.
Ferris (28-10-3) was seeded second in the Midwest Regional and drew No. 3 Colgate (20-13-5) in its tournament opener. That game will be 3:30 p.m. (CDT) on March 28 in Cincinnati.
If Ferris wins its opener it will battle either Wisconsin or North Dakota in the second round.
Minnesota State (26-13-1) was ranked third in the Northeast Region and will tangle with No. 2 Lowell (25-10-4) 6:30 p.m. on March 29 in Worcester, Mass. A victory would advance the Mavericks to the quarterfinals and a game against either Boston College or Denver.

In the East Regional openers March 28 at Bridgeport, Conn., No. 1 Union (28-6-4) faces Vermont (20-14-3) at 1 p.m. and second seeded Quinnipiac (24-9-6) will meet Providence (21-10-6) at 4:30 p.m.
