Clearwater County slated to meet today to discuss sale of hospital
The Clearwater County Board is holding a special meeting at 1 p.m. today at the Clearwater County Courthouse to discuss the sale of the county's medical facilities.
Clearwater County is in the process of selling the Clearwater County Memorial Hospital, Clearwater Health Services Clinic and Clearwater Ambulance Services to Cocoon Holdings LLC, a company based out of Grand Forks, N.D. The county entered into a Contract for Deed with Cocoon Holdings with the intention of the medical facilities to be purchased by Dec. 31, 2010.
According to a press release sent Friday from the Minnesota Nurses Association, CHS nurses who are concerned about the pending sale of county-owned CHS to Cocoon Holdings will be attending the meeting.
While CHS nurses are not opposed to the sale, the press release states, "they are deeply concerned that this pending deal is not a good one when it comes to ensuring a sustainable hospital and exceptional healthcare for their friends, neighbors and fellow taxpayers in Clearwater County."
A group of nurses from Bagley met with representatives with the MNA Nov. 11 to discuss the sale of the medical facilities. CHS employs more than two dozen registered nurses and licensed practical nurses at the hospital and clinic.
Since January 2009, the county has also held an agreement with Monarch Consulting Services Inc., a company based out of Bottineau, N.D., to handle the management of the county's medical facilities until the entities are sold.
