Claudine (Monahan) Frericks

Claudine (Monahan) Frericks, 85, of Duluth, Minn., formerly of Cass Lake and Bemidji, died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2009, at Benedictine Health Care Center in Duluth.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Philips Catholic Church in Bemidji with the Rev. Vincent Miller officiating. Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Monday at Olson-Schwartz Funeral Home in Bemidji, with a rosary at 7 p.m., and one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery in Cass Lake.

Pallbearers will be Ron Frericks, Pete Bellig, Wayne Bellig, Kevin Frericks, Randy Baune and Scott Baune.

She was born Sept. 5, 1923, to Robert and Caroline (Bolster) Monahan in Wabasso, Minn.

She married Cletus Frericks, Jan. 12, 1944, in Milroy, Minn. They farmed most of their life in the Wabasso and Raymond, Minn. area before purchasing Shangri La Resort in Cass Lake. They retired on Big Wolf Lake next to the resort.

She enjoyed her family, especially her grandchildren, gardening, hunting, fishing and making rosaries.

She is survived by her sons, Dean (Maggie) Frericks of Rocks Springs, Wyo., and Neal (Velvet) Frericks of Bemidji; daughters, Patricia Gebes of Ham Lake, Minn., and Cheryl (George) Morinville of Duluth; a sister, Kathleen Baune of Wabasso; a brother, Wayne (Ellie) Monahan of Yarington, Nev.; 19 grandchildren; and 37 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; sons, Denis and John; sisters, Mary Christopherson and Phyliis Bellig; and brothers, Lester Monahan and Everett Monahan.
