Feb. 28, 1913-Dec. 4, 2008
Former Waubun resident Clarence "Ray" Borgrud, 95, of McIntosh, Minn., died on Thursday, December 4, 2008 at McIntosh Manor Nursing Home in McIntosh.
Clarence Ray was born to Oscar and Mary Borgrud on February 28, 1913 in Poplar, Mont. They homesteaded in Montana until 1925, when they moved to a farm east of Waubun. What a change that was, from the prairie of Montana to the timber country of Minnesota. Ray attended school at the Espe School.
On Sept. 25, 1935 Ray married EulaBelle Cunningham. They lived on the Martin Borgrud farm until 1942, when they moved to Inglewood, Calif., where they both worked in defense plants. EulaBelle was a riveter for North American Aviation and Ray was a machinist for Interstate Aircraft and Engineering Corporation. In 1945 they moved to Minneapolis, where Ray worked at a munitions plant. Their son Gary was born in Minneapolis in 1945.
After World War II the family moved back to the Martin Borgrud farm, which they had bought. Ray kept busy doing custom trucking, lumber planning and farming until 1953. Following his farming he worked on road construction until his retirement in 1970. Ray was a member of Lake Grove Lutheran Church, and served on the church counsel.
Surviving Ray are his son, Gary (Vaun) Borgrud of Waubun; one granddaughter and two step-great grandchildren.
Preceding Ray in death were his wife, EulaBelle; his parents; grandson, Randy Borgrud; brother, Orrin Borgrud and sister, Lucille Swanson.
