The Chippewa National Forest announces that Michigan-based author Bill Jamerson will be presenting a 90-minute program of songs and stories about the Civilian Conservation Corps June 20 at Camp Rabideau near Blackduck.
Jamerson is an author, has produced a PBS film and recorded a CD of Civilian Conservation Corps songs. As part of his presentation, he will read excerpts from his novel, Big Shoulders, the story of a young man sent to a CCC camp in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Visitors will enjoy his CCC-camp era songs including Chow Time and Saturday Night.
The program is scheduled at 1:30 p.m. June 20 at the Camp Rabideau Civilain Conservation Corps site located six miles south of Blackduck off the Ladyslipper Scenic Byway (County Road 39). The presentation will be held outdoors if weather permits and visitors are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs.
