City of Bemidji makes offer for new fire chief
The new fire chief for the city of Bemidji is expected to be Dave Hoefer of Grand Forks, N.D.
City Manager John Chattin said Wednesday that the city has offered the position to Hoefer, who has verbally accepted.
The offer is contingent upon a satisfactory background investigation that is currently underway, Chattin said.
Hoefer is currently a captain with the Grand Forks Fire Department and has been a member of that department since 1995. He also has been a fire technology instructor at Northland Community and Technical College since 1995.
His anticipated start date is Jan. 11, Chattin said.
He will replace Fire Chief Dick Sathers, who plans to retire Dec. 31.
"We look forward to having Dave on our management team," Chattin said.
Twenty-eight people submitted applications for the position earlier this fall. Eleven of them responded to a written questionnaire and four finalists were interviewed Dec. 11.
Hoefer was chosen over Jay Bohan of Brodhead, Wis.; Daniel Klein of Cologne, Minn.; and James Mueller of Eagan, Minn.
