Oh, oh, what a Christmas to remember.

It may be a “Christmas to Remember” for select members of Bemidji High School’s A Cappella Choir.

The choir will join Kenny Rogers on stage during his Dec. 18 holiday concert at the Sanford Center in Bemidji.

“It’s going to be great,” said Chris Fettig, BHS choral director.

A Cappella members will join Rogers on stage for four songs — two traditional holiday songs, one written by Rogers himself, and one patriotic song. A fifth song, a traditional holiday song, will be sung solely by BHS choir members.

Curtis Webb, executive director for the Sanford Center, said choirs generally are included in Rogers’ holiday shows. This summer, he spoke with Rogers’ people and put them in contact with BHS, which put them in contact with Fettig, who got the call while golfing.

“It’s great to have our kids represented,” Webb said. “It’s going to be a fun show.”

In many ways, the timing couldn’t be better as the choirs’ annual winter concert is set for two days before, on Dec. 16

“Obviously, it was an easy choice for us to go to the high school, given all their choir success,” Webb said. “Just knowing how well Vocalmotive has done and Chris Fettig’s success, I just thought we had to tie them in somehow.”

In 2010, the A Cappella Choir, composed of 68 students, was selected as one of the top 15 student choirs in six states, having been chosen among those to perform for the North-Central American Choral Directors’ Association conference in Orchestra Hall in Minneapolis.

Vocalmotive, the varsity show choir, placed 12th last year in the finals of the Show Choir National Championships in Chicago.
