Authorities identify man who died in fiery crash on Interstate 29 south of Grand Forks

Christine Anita Halama, 71, of Waskish, MN passed away of cancer on April 24, 2014 surrounded by her family and friends at her home.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, April 29, 2014 at 11:00 AM at the Old School Center in Kelliher, MN with Pastor Ed Anderson officiating. A visitation will be held from 6 8 PM on Monday, April 28th with a prayer service at 7:30 PM at Cease Family Funeral Home in Blackduck, MN. Burial will be at Fairview Cemetery in Kelliher, MN.

Christine was born on February 27, 1943 in Bemidji, MN, the daughter of Edward and Mabel (Anderson) Miller. She was raised and attended school in Kelliher graduating from Kelliher High School in 1961. Christine married her high school sweetheart Velmer Halama on August 24, 1963 in Kelliher. She worked at Citizens State Bank in Kelliher for 4 years after graduation and then was a homemaker. After raising her children she worked as a cook in several area businesses. She was the head cashier at the Waskish Food and Fuel, owned by her daughter Jana (& Frank), until her retirement in 2007. She was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Waskish.

Christine loved to garden flowers, read, and work on ceramics. She had a keen eye for decorating her home and she could shop until she dropped. She was very proud of her grandchildren and loved spending time with and sharing stories about them. She enjoyed having coffee and visiting with her many friends and family. Most importantly, Christine maintained a positive attitude and was a real trooper throughout her long battle with cancer. Many times she had reasons to complain, but didnt. She was a wonderful example for all of her family and friends.

Christine is survived by her husband, Velmer A. Halama of Waskish; 3 daughters, Jana (Frank) Duresky of Waskish, Michele (Curt) Evans of Rockford, MN, and Tricia (Brett Willborg) Krekelberg of Bagley, MN; Her grandchildren, Travis Duresky, Caitlyn (Tyler) Wentworth, Lindsey Duresky, Triann Krekelberg, Morgan Krekelberg, Megan (Jake) Sharbono, and James Evans; her great grandchildren, Baby Wentworth and Henry Sharbono; her siblings, Jack (Nita) Miller, Marion (Ted) Harris, JoAnne Bjerke, Cynthia Marquette, David (Ginny) Miller, and Patrick Miller; her brother in law, George Halama; her sister in law, Lois (Don) Nelson; her former sister-in-law, Nancy Halama; and numerous nieces and nephews

Christine was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Mabel Miller; her brother, Ronald Miller and infant brother, Robert Miller; and 2 sisters, Olive Ann Virden and Ernestine Henry.
