Census: Minnesota economy stabilizes
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — New U.S. Census Bureau figures indicate a steadier economy in Minnesota.
The date released Thursday shows no decline in median household income and a poverty rate that remains flat at about 12 percent.
State demographer Susan Brower says while many states continued to see declines in income and increases in the poverty rate, Minnesota showed signs of stabilizing in 2011.
It's the first time the Census Bureau's American Community Survey showed no decline in median household income in Minnesota since 2007. Median income last year was about $57,000, the same as in 2010.
The state's chief labor market analyst Steve Hine says Minnesota's economic recovery still has plenty of room for improvement. He tells Minnesota Public Radio News (http://tinyurl.com/8hpl8wm) it continues to be a fragile recovery.
