Cass Lake man sentenced for Hackensack burglary

WALKER -- A Cass Lake man was sentenced in Cass County Court for his part in burglarizing a Hackensack liquor store in June.

Jeffrey Allen Goose, 28, was convicted of felony third-degree burglary on Aug. 4. Goose was sentenced to one year and one day in the Minnesota Correctional Facility in St. Cloud which has been stayed for five years. Goose must serve 60 days local confinement in the Cass County Jail. He was credited with 33 days time served.


Goose was arrested along with Curtis Eugene Hoffman III, 22, of Walker by the Cass County Sheriff's Office for burglarizing the Hackensack Municipal Off-Sale Liquor Store on June 10.

Video footage of two individuals confirmed Goose and Hoffman had broken into the establishment and stolen bottles of Captain Morgan after smashing in the bottom portion of a glass door. Hoffman admitted he had broken into the liquor store but said he acted alone when deputies questioned him.

According to court documents, a deputy said he observed Goose throwing Captain Morgan bottles out of a window, according to court documents.

Goose and Hoffman entered guilty pleas to felony third-degree burglary on June 26. Third-degree burglary carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

Goose has been placed on five years supervised probation and must pay a $50 fine. Hoffman is scheduled for sentencing on Monday.
