Cass Lake community sends team off to state
The road to what is hoped will lead to a state Class A boys basketball championship for Cass Lake-Bena began Wednesday morning when the school and community saluted the players at pep fests at the high school and elementary school.
Emceed by CL-B teacher Beef Sathre, the pep fests featured introductions, games and congratulations from school and community officials.
Superintendent Carl Remmers, Cass Lake mayor Wayne LaDuke and Leech Lake District III Representative Eugene "Ribs" Whitebird were among the speakers and each congratulated the Panthers on reaching the state for the fourth consecutive season.
Cass Lake-Bena will open its state tournament action at 1 p.m. Thursday at Williams Arena against Minnesota Transitions. The Panthers will take a 26-4 record into the tournament.
