Cass Lake-Bena baseball: Trosen throws no-hitter
The Cass Lake-Bena Panthers took a stranglehold on the Northland Conference baseball race Thursday, scoring a 10-0 win over Pine River in a match of unbeatens.
Coupled with Tuesday's 30-0 romp past Walker, it left CL-B at 5-0 in league play and 8-0 overall.
Pine River dropped to 3-1 and 5-1.
The two teams meet again at Pine River May 14.
Tyler Trosen hurled a no hitter in posting his third win, fanning 10 and walking one.
The Panthers scored in all but the second inning, pounding out 12 hits including Trosen's game-ending home run in the last of the sixth.
Chad Wittner had three hits and Jake Ellis and Nolan Goss two.
Cass Lake-Bena hosted Nevis Friday in another key game and travels to Kelliher-Northome Monday before entertaining Bagley Tuesday.
Tuesday, CL-B opened with 13 runs in the first inning at Walker and scored 15 in the third to end that game after five.
Mike Hanson and Caleb Fisher combined on a two hitter, Hanson going the first four to get his second win.
