Carol Janis Shegrud, 67, of Bagley, MN, was called home to heaven on June 17th, 2014. She was born on December 25th, 1946 in San Francisco, CA and spent her early life there. She graduated from Sir Francis Drake High School in 1965 and attended the College of Marin. She married Richard Stanley Miller of Novato, CA and together they had 4 children. Later she married Mitchell John Shegrud, Sr. of Bagley, MN who brought three children to the marriage, and then together they had two children.
Carol (also known as The Queen, Mommers, Mama Duck, G-Ma, Gigi, Big Mama and Mum) was a doting wife, nurturing mother and grandmother, and beloved friend to many. Her spontaneous and joyous laughter will be remembered by all who were privileged to know her. She was an exceptional cook and was always ready to share her home and heart with any and all. She loved the Lord and was a beautiful example of His kindness and strength. Carol made friends easily and was often sought out for advice and comfort or a good game of Hand and Foot. Some of her favorite pastimes included watching her grandchildren in sports, plays, show choir and more. She loved playing cards and socializing with family and friends, reading, swimming, traveling (especially to see a loved one), and cooking. With her heart for God, she was a source of guidance and wisdom for everyone she knew. She worked as a real estate agent, legal secretary at Rasmussen Law Office and was a Guardian ad Litem and custody evaluator, among other pursuits. She also lent her beautiful voice to minister to others as she sang with the Glorified Rice group through the years. Although no autopsy was performed, it is believed she died because her heart was too big.
Carol is survived by her children: Richard Miller of San Antonio, TX; Alisa (Patrick) McNallan of Bemidji, MN; Carrie (Michael) Stevens of Cuenca, Ecuador; Paul (Chrissy) Miller of Bagley, MN; Holly (Lugene) Jones of Bagley, MN; Noah (Yvonne) Shegrud of San Antonio, TX, sons of her heart Mitchell (Charlotte) Shegrud of Beresford, SD and Darby (Julie) Shegrud of Bemidji, MN; daughter of her heart Erin Shegrud of Roseau, MN; 30 grandchildren and one great grandson. She is also survived by many loving brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews and loving friends both near and far.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents; Francis Edmund King, III and Dorothy Marie (Swift) Sollar, her sister Maureen Elizabeth King, the love of her life Mitchell John Shegrud, granddaughter Alexandra Miller and several grandbabies whom God thought were more fit for heaven.
A celebration of Carols life will be held at Grace Chapel, 10 miles south of Bagley on Hwy 92 on June 30th, 2014 at 4:00 (3:30 for those who are habitually late). A meal and fellowship will be available immediately following the service.
