Authorities identify man who died in fiery crash on Interstate 29 south of Grand Forks

Former Lake Park resident Carl M. Fuchs, 86, of Fertile, Minn., died peacefully with his family by his side, Monday, March 9, 2009, in Riverview Health Care, Crookston, Minn.

Carl was born to George and Agnes (Buth) Fuchs on April 9, 1922 in Culbertson, Mont. When he was twelve years old he moved with his family to Sabin, Minn. In 1940, they moved to Felton, where Carl farmed with his Dad. Carl married the love of his life, Georgia Hamernik on Aug. 5, 1945, a union of 63 years and a testament to their children and families.

In 1962, they moved to Lake Park. Carl and Georgia both worked for Swift & Company until their retirement. They enjoyed fishing, playing cards, doing crafts and spending valuable time with family and friends. They moved to Fertile, Minnesota in 2007.

Surviving Carl are his wife, Georgia Fuchs of Fertile, Minn.; two sons, Wallace (Sandy) Fuchs of Horace, N.D., and Lyle (Diane) Fuchs of Fertile; three daughters, Virginia (David) Strem of Fertile, Ione (Bob) Bloom of Billings, Mont., and Nancy (Bob) Anderson of Willow City, N.D.; 11 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Marilyn Fuchs of Glyndon, Minn.; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Preceding him in death were his parents; three brothers; four sisters; and a grandson, Brent Bloom.

Visitation is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, March 13, followed by a 7 p.m. prayer service, at Sundal Lutheran Church in Fertile, and also for one hour prior to the start of services in Lake Park.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, March 14 in Lake Park Lutheran Church, Lake Park, followed by interment in Lake Park Lutheran Church Cemetery in Lake Park.
