Burgess survives in Executive Division

BEMIDJI - Joe Burgess of Woodbury maintained his hopes of a repeat title Thursday as he survived the quarterfinals with a 2 up win over Miles Schacher of Hawley.

Today will find Burgess taking on Scott Hinners of Bemidji who stopped Derrick Johnson 1 up Thursday.

In the lower bracket Todd Witkowski of Zeeland, Mich. defeated Randy Landsverk of Fosston 4 and 3. Lee Hetletved of Grand Forks also posted a win, topping Russ Moen of Bemidji 4 and 3.

Today's semifinals will begin at 8:45 a.m.

None of Thursday's Women's Championship matches went the distance as two ended after 16 holes and two more were decided after 14 holes.

In the closest matches of the day Megan Swan of Tipp City, Ohio downed Jenna Palmiscno of Bemidji 4 and 2 and Sarah Storandt of Moorhead defeated Cindy Hauser of Minneapolis 3 and 2.

Thursday's other results saw Missy Tabery of Wadena oust Laura Cahill of Grand Rapids 5 and 4 and Elisabeth Strom of Fargo stop Heather Erholtz of Motley 6 and 4.

Today's semifinals begin at 9:03 a.m. and match Swan against Strom and Storandt against Tabery.

Defending champion Jack Seiberlich of Rush City remains on track for a repeat crown as he defeated Jim Nelson of Houston, Texas 2 up Thursday.

His opponent today will be Bryant Barnes of Bemidji who slipped past Thomas Hanson of Detroit Lakes 1 up.

Joe Mayer of Bemidji also advanced Thursday as he bounced Bob Sorensen of Neptune, N.J. 2-1. Mayer will square off against Chuck Hiller of Crookston in today's 1:12 p.m. semifinals. Hiller moved on with Thursday's 3 and 1 win over Bob Ostlund of Walker.
