Bulldog Junior Varsity does well at Conference Meet
The junior varsity boys and girls track athletes did a good job at the Junior Varsity Conference Meets in Walker on May 10. The junior varsity teams included athletes from grade 6 - 9.
To start the meet, Mort Eckstrom ran the 1600 m for the boys. He established himself in the sixth position and stayed there the whole race finishing 6th overall.
In the next event, Brigette Williams hurdled her way to a 4th place finish in the 100 m hurdles for the girls. Tiana Weidenborner sprinted in the 100 m dash next. She was able to capture 6th place.
In the 4 x 100 m relay, both the boys and the girls placed. The girls' team of Sierra Stroeing, Sophie Eitenmiller, Emma Rieger, and Weidenborner combined for a 69.3 that placed them 4th. The boys' team of Conner Rennemo, Paul Eckstrom, Mort Eckstrom, and Larry Favela combined for a clean run of 61.0 that placed them 5th. Favela then turned around and had to run the 400 m in the next race. He ran a 73.7 that placed him 6th.
In the 300 hurdles, the NKB girls dominated the field by sweeping the top three spots. Michaela Williams led the way with a 68, B. Williams and Lindsey Duresky came across in a near tie at 1:11 for second and third. In the 200 m dash, Stroeing and Eitenmiller both sprinted and placed. Stroeing took 5th while Eitenmiller took 6th.
In the final running event of the day, the 4 x 400 m relay team of Shadow Lievsay, Duresky, M. Williams, and B. Williams combined for a 5:35 effort that placed them 2nd as the were passed in the last 60 m.
In the field events, the teams did very well. Miranda Carrigan and Paul Eckstrom both won the shot put events. Carrigan threw 28' 10.5" while Eckstrom threw 38' 11". Weidenborner added a 4th in the shot put (25' 8.5"). Mort Eckstrom added a 2nd in the shot (34' 1") and a 2nd in the discus with a huge toss of 102' 11".
In the jumping events, Megan Hudec took 3rd in the high jump with a 3' 9" leap. Duresky jumped to 6th place in the long jump with 10' 1.25". Favela leaped over 4' 2" to capture 3rd in the high jump while Matt Jourdan took 3rd in the triple jump (28' 10.5") and 6th in the long jump (12' 5").
