Buena Vista celebrating 30 years of Logging Days

BUENA VISTA – Thirty years ago, a group of men came together to establish a celebration to play homage to early lumberjacks.
This weekend, that celebration – Logging Days – will mark its 30th anniversary as hundreds travel to Buena Vista Logging Village to experience the days of horse-powered logging, sleigh rides and woodcarving.
“I certainly believe that we have to remember our past to plan our path to the future,” said Earle Dickinson, one of Logging Days’ founders, in 1995 before he died in 2006 at age 78.
Suzanne Thomas, Dickinson’s daughter, said the celebration continues to remember an era gone by.
“It’s all about not forgetting the past,” she said.
Logging Days, to be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, offers horse-drawn logging and blacksmith demonstrations, crosscut sawing, a log-scaling contest, roping contests, sleigh rides, live music, food, and more.
