The Bemidji State women's basketball team bounced back from a pair of losses last weekend to defeat St. Scholastica 83-31 Tuesday night at the BSU Gymnasium.

"Any kind of win feels good, but especially after a weekend where we just did not play very well," said Beavers coach Mike Curfman. "We watched film and talked about how we took a lot of quick shots and off-balance shots last weekend, and you cannot do that in our league. We did a better job of decision making on the offensive end."

The Beavers (3-3) took full advantage the Saints' 16 first-half turnovers to build a 23-point lead by halftime.

Nothing changed in the second half as the Beavers held the Saints to 11 points and built on their lead.

The Beavers featured a balanced scoring attack in which 11 players scored. They were led by sophomore center Jessie Althoff, who had a game-high 12 points and added five rebounds. Junior guard Samantha Baldwin achieved her first career double-double and pulled down a career-high 13 boards.

"It is good," said Baldwin of her double-double. "But it feels even better to get a win, especially after the two losses last weekend."

"It is nice to give everyone a chance to play and contribute," said Cuurfman. "Everybody works hard in practice. When you have a chance to get all 12 players in, that is a bonus."

Freshman guard Ellie Wesling added 10 points. Freshman guard Melissa Borstner scored nine and senior center Colleen McKay and junior Sydney Epema each had eight points.

"It is a big win for us, said Baldwin, "especially with two tough teams coming in this weekend. It will definitely help us prepare for our conference games coming up. Our confidence level was not the greatest until tonight, and it will help us a lot this weekend."

Bemidji State returns to action Friday at 6 p.m. when Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference foe Winona State comes to town.
