BSU soccer team continues NSIC success

Ashlee Ellefsen scored in the 61st minute to lead the Bemidji State University soccer team to a 1-0 victory at St. Cloud Sunday.

The win capped a successful weekend which saw BSU (8-1, 5-1 NSIC) stop Concordia-St. Paul 1-0 on Saturday.

Jamie Ford began the winning play when she carried the ball into the middle of the field and spotted Ellefson heading for the net. Ellefsen received the pass and ripped a shot from 18 yards out which found the upper corner.

The goal was Ellefsen's sixth of the season while Ford's assist was her eighth.

This weekend the Beavers will be home for a pair of 1 p.m. games, hosting Northern State Saturday and U-Mary on Sunday.

The BSU men's golf team ended is in 10th place after 36-holes of the NSIC tournament with rounds of 324-319-643.

Minnesota State leads the field at 305-294-599 and St. Cloud is second at 302-298-600.

The unique format includes 36 holes in the fall and 54 holes in the spring. This weekend's portion of the tournament was held in Hudson, Wis. and this spring the tournament will conclude with 54 holes in Lake City.

Justin Johnson and Jordan Priem paced Bemidji State this weekend with rounds of 79-90-159 and 81-78-159. Individually they sit in 23rd place.

Chris Curb shot 82-78-160, Danny Menton 82-83-165 and Jim Foss 85-83-168 to complete BSU's scoring.

Beau Anderson of St. Cloud and Adam Fields of Wayne State share the top 36-hole individual score as each finished at 143.

Bemidji State will conclude its fall campaign next weekend at the 54-hole Twin Cities Classic. Play begins Saturday and ends Monday.

The BSU women's golf team finished third in the five-team Huskie Classic hosted by St. Cloud State Sunday and Monday.

The Beavers finished at 370-354-724 and trailed Manitoba (692) and St. Cloud (703).

Moorhead (800) and Crookston (925) also participated.

Morgan Lindsay paced BSU with rounds of 93-83-176. Marissa Mackendanz shot 89-91-180, Rachel Wold 95-87-182, Kathryn Stoffels 93-93-186, Maria Sloan 103-100-203 and Ashley Meeteran 111-99-210.
