Jenny Stromberg scored 1:09 into the game and goalie Samantha Ross stopped all six shots sent her way to lead the Bemidji State University soccer team to Sunday's 5-0 home victory over Crookston.
The shutout was BSU's third in a row and the Bemidji State defense extended its scoreless streak to 270 minutes.
Stromberg's goal proved to be the only one the Beavers would need. Stromberg capped a play that saw Jamie Ford pass to Ashlee Ellefsen and Ellefsen relay the ball to Stromberg who found an opening in the lower left corner.
Ford upped the advantage to 2-0 when she scored on a penalty kick at the 17-minute mark.
BSU took the 2-0 lead into the break but settled the issue with three second-half tallies.
At the 51-minute mark Ellefson connected courtesy of Stromberg's feed. Less than five minutes later Stromberg kicked home a rebound of Ellefsen's 18-yard shot.
BSU capped the scoring in the 80th minute as Analey Skog converted a rebound.
Sunday's victory was Bemidji State's fifth in as many starts. BSU returns to action Saturday when it hosts Winona. Sunday finds the Beavers entertaining Upper Iowa. Both games will start at 1 p.m.
Jim Foss and Justin Johnson tied for 17th with a 36-hole total of 153 to lead the Bemidji State men's golf team to sixth place at the Husky Classic in St. Cloud which was played Sunday and Monday.
BSU Green shot 299-314-613 and trailed Minnesota State (594), St. Cloud (604), Crookston (605), Manitoba (607) and Winona (613).
Bemidji State's second team (BSU White) was 10th at 312-323-635.
Danny Menton of BSU White shot 74-78-152 to lead both Bemidji State teams.
Foss (78-75-153) and Johnson (78-75-153) followed for BSU Green. Other BSU Green scores included Chris Curb's 72-82-154 (22nd place), Jordan Priem's 73-82-155 (25th) and Kevin Larson's 87-80-167 (57th).
For the White, Garrett Nelson shot 78-80-158 (35th), Matt Haugstad finished 77-83-160 (40th) and Andrew Ellefsen shot 83-82-165 (53rd).
The BSU women's golf team shot 386-3788-764 and finished 10th in the 11-team Concordia Invitational held Sunday and Monday at Lake Elmo.
Augustana took the team title with rounds of 300-314-614.
Completing the top five were Nebraska-Omaha (631), Minnesota State (644), Concordia-St. Paul (653) and Hawaii-Hilo (665).
Bemidji State's top finish was by Kathryn Stoffels who was 47th with rounds of 97-87-184. Marissa Mackendanz (97-93-190) and Lindsey Morgan (93-97-190) tied for 52nd while Rachel Wold (99-101-200) was 61st. Maria Sloan was 62nd at 100-102-202.
