BSU SID staff earns publication awards

BEMIDJI - The Bemidji State University athletic media relations office was among the sports information offices honored June 24 at America's Center Convention Complex in St. Louis, Mo.

The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) recognized BSU with three citations for excellence in publications. The awards were distributed as a part of CoSIDA's annual convention.

The 2011-12 Bemidji State men's hockey media guide was voted third in the nation in CoSIDA's winter at-large-university division at NCAA Division I institutions around the country.

The University of Oklahoma won the division's top award for its men's gymnastics publication.

The BSU men's hockey guide contains 120 pages of Beaver hockey information, history and record books. The guide was written, edited and designed by Brad Folkestad, director of athletic media relations, who is in his seventh year at BSU.

The women's basketball media guide was tabbed fourth in the nation in the College Division competing against women's basketball submissions at the NCAA Division II level nationwide. Gannon University was selected as the division's best.

The publications contest drew more than 370 media guide entries from NCAA Division I, II, III and NAIA member institutions.

BSU's basketball poster finished seventh in the college division poster contest. The poster was one of 47 entries. The University of St. Francis (Ind.) football poster earned the top spt in the division.
