BSU roundup: Volleyball, soccer teams fall
BEMIDJI — The University of Mary rallied from a 2-1 deficit to defeat the Bemidji State volleyball team 21-25, 25-16, 20-25, 25-13, 15-11 Friday at the BSU gym.
Friday’s victory was U-Mary’s first in 10 NSIC matches while the Beavers dropped to 1-9 in league play and 5-13 overall.
Jess Yost led BSU’s offense with 15 kills. Rachel Craig added 11 and Amanda Tronick 10.
Courtney Volkmann dished 37 set assists.
Kayle DeJong contributed 29 digs and Elissa Christensen had 15.
Chelsea Frison’s six block assists and one solo block were team highs.
The Beavers return to action 4 p.m. today when they host Minot.
Soccer teams falls 1-0
WINONA — The Beavers could not find the net and Winona’s Rebecca McCoy scored midway through the second half to help the Warriors down BSU 1-0 Friday.
McCoy connected with a header following a corner kick.
Bemidji State managed only two shots on the Winona keeper.
Winona improved to 8-2 in NSIC action while the Beavers dropped to 9-4 overall and 6-4 in conference play. BSU will continue its road swing Sunday with a 1 p.m. game at Upper Iowa.
