BSU roundup: Soccer team wins in overtime
ABERDEEN, S.D. — Jessie Voeller’s goal in the 103rd minute of double overtime lifted the Bemidji State University women’s soccer team to a 1-0 win over Northern State in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference action Saturday afternoon.
Voeller’s strike, with an assist from Sarah Stram, beat NSU goalkeeper Brittany Tietz on the counterattack.
Sonja Barr made five saves for BSU while Tietz saves eight shots for the Wolves.
The Beavers improve to 8-3 overall and 5-3 in the NSIC while the Wolves fell to 6-5 and 3-5.
BSU returns to action today at MSU Moorhead.
RMU blanks BSU
BEMIDJI — Robert Morris scored twice in the first period and again in the second to blank Bemidji State 3-0 Saturday at the Sanford Center.
Brittany Howard, Rebecca Vint and Kristen Richards scored for the Colonials (3-1-0), who had 28 shots on goal.
BSU had 25 shots but couldn’t find the back of the net.
Freshman Brittini Mowat made 25 saves for the Beavers (1-2-1).
Volleyball falls at NSU
ABERDEEN, S.D. — The Bemidji State volleyball team dropped Friday’s match at Northern State 26-24, 25-12, 25-15.
The Beavers came out playing well in the first set and led 20-15 but the Wolves tied it with five straight points and eventually won with two points which snapped a 24-24 deadlock.
In the second set BSU trailed 13-12 but Northern rattled off 12 straight points to post the victory.
BSU and the Wolves were knotted 7-7 in the final game but Northern pulled away from there.
The Beavers, 5-11 overall and 1-7 in league play, were at MSU Moorhead Saturday night.
