BSU roundup: Beavers fall to MSU Mankato 5-0

MANKATO — The Minnesota State Mankato soccer team handed Bemidji State its first Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference loss of the season, cruising to a 5-0 win Sunday in Mankato.

MSU scored in the seventh and 30th minutes to take a 2-0 lead at halftime, then extended the lead to 5-0 with three more goals.

The Beavers were outshot 34-8 in the game.

BSU freshman goalkeeperBrittany Tietzmade five saves and allowed two goals in the first 45 minutes of play, while sophomore keeperSonja Barr played the second half in net, made nine saves and was responsible or three goals allowed. Tietz was tagged with the loss and is now 2-2-0 on the season.

The Beavers moved to 3-2-1 on the season and 1-1-1 in conference play.

Bemidji State returns home to host Wayne State Saturday and Augustana College Sunday. Both games are slated to get underway at 1 p.m.

Women’s golf takes sixth

LAKE ELMO – The BSU women's golf team carded a 342 (+54) to finish seventh at Concordia University Invitational Monday at the par-72, 5,934-yard Tartan Park Golf Course in Lake Elmo.

The Beavers recorded a 330-342—672 (+96) place the team 52 strokes off the led set by Augustana College (305-315—620/+44) and in the middle of the 16-team field.

Individually, Grand Valley State’s Kelly Hartigan climbed out of fourth place after day one, to card a final round one-over-par 73 to finish at five-over-par (76-73—149) and claim medalist honors by one stroke over Augustana’s Emily Kvidera (74-76—150).

Individually,freshman Monica Woldled the Beavers on day two posting a 79 (+7) and finished in 15thplace with an 82-79—161 (+17).

The Beavers are back in action this weekend as they travel to Marshall to compete in the SMSU Mustang Invitational.
