BSU hosts Earth Day events this week

BEMIDJI -- BSU will host an Earth Day celebration featuring a farmers market, live music, bike tune-up and a pipe ceremony from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. today in the Lakeside Terrace area of lower Hobson Memorial Union on the BSU campus.

A Sustainable Tuesdays event on local water quality issues is set for 5:30 p.m. today in the American Indian Resource Center Gathering Place on the BSU campus. Panelists from around the state will present on Lake Bemidji, Park Rapids ground water and the effects of copper mining on water in the region. Refreshments will be provided.

Several events will take place through the week to celebrate the environment. A pair of presentations at the American Indian Resource Center Great Room on the BSU campus will be held on Wednesday. The first presentation on grease waste begins at 4:30 p.m., followed by a presentation on the North Country Trail beginning at 7 p.m.

The BSU Sustainability Office will host a workshop showing water treatment and purification techniques from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday. A lakeshore cleanup event and beach party will take place Friday. The Stride into Spring 5k and 10k event will take place Saturday starting at BSU's Gillett Recreation-Fitness Center.
