BSU baseball team scores 19 runs in rout of Minnesota-Crookston
After the snow and rain went away, the Bemidji State baseball team brought its bats out to play. The BSU baseball team defeated Minnesota-Crookston 19-1 in the first game of a doubleheader Wednesday night at BSU Baseball Field.
The game was delayed 30 minutes to a passing late afternoon rain and snow shower. When the game began, the Beavers offense piled up the runs.
BSU scored twice in the bottom half of the first inning and added four runs in the second inning to take a 6-0 lead.
Nick Jelacie scored three of the second inning runs on a home run to left-center field. It was his team-leading sixth home run of the season.
Crookston scored its lone run in the top of the fourth inning, but BSU answered with nine runs in the bottom of the inning and added four more in the sixth inning.
Jelacie, Colton Smith, Brian Murphy and Joe Chism all had three RBIs in the game and accounted for eight of BSU's 18 hits. They also accounted for eight runs.
Zach Braun, Juan Molero and Lewis Baumann each had two hits in the game.
Logan Kalis pitched five innings and improved to 2-1 on the season. He scattered four hits over the five innings, struck out four and walked one. Ryan Anderson pitched the final two innings and struck out two.
BSU improved to 12-18 (6-10 NSIC) with the win, its first at BSU Baseball Field this season.
