Bruce McGhee, 75, of Thief River Falls, formerly of Bemidji, died Sunday, Dec. 21, 2008, at his home in Thief River Falls.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Jan. 2 at Johnson Funeral Service in Thief River Falls. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in St. Bernard's Cemetery in Thief River Falls.
Johnson Funeral Service of Thief River Falls assisted the family with arrangements.
He was born Feb. 11, 1933, to Bruce Johnson and Myrtle Olivine (Morrow) McGhee in Crookston, Minn. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and attended school in Bemidji. He entered into service with the U.S. Air Force Feb. 16, 1950, in Fargo, N.D. and was honorably discharged Feb. 19, 1953. On Dec. 6, 1963, he married Helen Eleanor Kosmatka in Grand Forks, N.D. They had two children. The couple lived in Grand Forks and Bemidji before moving to Detroit, Mich., where they were owners and caretakers of apartment buildings for 29 years.
In his younger years, he enjoyed fishing, riding horse and target shooting. He enjoyed walking with his dog, baking cookies, driving his grandchildren around, going to the casino and playing cards on the computer. He was a member of the Thief River Falls American Legion and VFW clubs.
He is survived by his children, Jan Hickey of Thief River Falls and Jerold (Suzanne) McGhee of Royal Oak, Mich.; eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; brother, Larry (Karen) Robertson of Bemidji and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife and his parents.
