Swift County sheriff's authorities said 33-year-old Louis Burns of Minnetonka and his 37-year-old brother -- Sam Burns from Sandy, Utah -- were hunting in low-light conditions Monday evening when Sam spotted a deer and fired a 12-gauge shotgun at it.

The slug missed and traveled nearly 500 yards over a hill, striking Louis in the leg.

He and his brother were able to walk to their vehicle, and Sam drove Louis to a hospital. Louis Burns was treated and released.

The sheriff's office and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources investigated.

Benson is about 30 miles northwest of Willmar.
