Breck belts Bemidji 7-1
BEMIDJI – Saturday at the Community Arena Bemidji squared off against the No. 2 ranked team in the Class A division. And Breck lived up to that billing as the Mustangs skated around the Lumberjacks for a 7-1 victory.
Breck has lost only three times this winter, twice by 2-1 margins to No. 1 rated St. Thomas Academy and once to St. Cloud Cathedral, the current No. 6 team in Class A, by a 4-2 margin.
The vast majority of Saturday’s game was spent in Bemidji’s defensive zone and it was only a matter of time until Breck’s attack was rewarded.
That time came 11:34 into the opening period when Breck peppered BHS goalie Grant Tharaldson and finally beat the sophomore on a second rebound.
The goal was the first of three power play tallies for the Mustangs and their seven goals also included a shorthanded goal in the third period.
Bemidji’s goal came 13:12 into the middle stanza when Mike Sauer capped a nifty 3-on-2 break with a hard wrister from between the circles.
Matt Serratore and Zach Posner assisted on the goal.
Saturday’s loss dropped the Jacks to 7-14-1. They will be off until Feb. 9 when they host Moorhead.
