BEMIDJI – The Bemidji boys soccer team advanced to the Section 8A quarterfinals Thursday with a 5-1 win over Crookston and the Lumberjacks will continue their quest for a section title 4:30 p.m. today at Detroit Lakes.


Detroit Lakes (8-7-1 and seeded No. 2 in the North Sub-Section) blanked No. 7 Fergus Falls 3-0 Thursday in its tournament opener.

BHS is the No. 3 seed from the North and will take a 6-8-3 record into today’s contest. Early in the regular season the Jacks dropped a 3-1 decision at Detroit Lakes and 10 days later the teams tied 3-3 in Bemidji.

In Thursday’s other North Sub-Section 8A action No. 1 Hillcrest crushed No. 8 Walker-Hackensack-Akeley 13-0 and No. 5 Alexandria tripped No. 4 East Grand Forks 5-3.

The South Sub-Section results saw No. 1 Sartell receive a bye, No. 4 Little Falls thump No. 5 Becker 5-2, No. 2 St. Cloud Apollo tip No. 7 Sauk Rapids 2-0 and No. 3 St. Cloud Cathedral nip No. 6 St. John’s Prep 2-1.

The section semifinals will be Tuesday at the higher seeds and the championship is set for Oct. 17 at St. Cloud State.

If the Lumberjacks defeat Detroit Lakes they will take on either Sartell or Little Falls.
