Boys hockey: Jacks fall to Hermantown
HERMANTOWN — Bemidji opened the scoring two minutes into the game but Hermantown answered with six of the next seven goals and the Hawks defeated the Lumberjacks boys hockey team 6-2 Saturday in Hermantown.
“We struggled at times containing Hermantown’s top players. We gave them too much time and space and Hermantown capitalized,” said BHS coach Wade Chiodo. “I thought we played well at times but in the second period we were a little flat and Hermantown was able to get a 5-2 lead.”
Jack Johnson opened the scoring as the Bemidji forward converted a feed from Michael Forseth two minutes into the action.
Hermantown, however, scored eight minutes in and again at the 14:45 mark and held a 2-1 lead after 17 minutes.
The Hawks (13-2) took control with three goals in the middle stanza. Bemidji managed one goal in the stanza when Rocky Copiskey won a faceoff, sent the puck to Forseth and Forseth zipped the puck into the top corner.
Hermantown capped the scoring 52 seconds into the final period.
Garret Atteberry made 32 saves in the BHS net.
Bemidji (7-9) travels to Sauk Rapids Tuesday.
