BEMIDJI – The rigors of playing four games in seven days and making road trips to Roseau, Warroad and Monticello took their toll on the Bemidji boys hockey team.
Saturday the Lumberjacks hosted Hermantown and BHS didn’t have much in the tank. The Hawks dominated from the outset and handed Bemidji an 8-1 loss.
Friday the Lumberjacks erupted for a 9-1 victory at Monticello but Saturday it was Hermantown’s turn to own that role.
The visitors scored 3:26 into the contest and continued to apply the pressure the rest of the way.
After 17 minutes Hermantown was on top 3-0 and after two periods the visitors extended their lead to 6-1.
A pair of unanswered goals in the third period capped the night’s scoring.
BHS tallied its goal in the second stanza when Brett Hartje banged home the rebound of Matt Serratore’s shot from just outside the crease.
The Jacks manufactured a handful of other legitimate scoring chances but, for the most part, Hermantown controlled the action.
On this night the Hawks had more zip in their legs, with their passes and with their shots.
Bemidji goalie Gabe Heifort stopped 34 shots while the offense managed only 12 on the Hermantown net.
The Jacks (6-11-1) return to action Friday at East Grand Forks.
