Boys hockey: Brainerd blanks Bemidji 4-0
BRAINERD — Brainerd goaltender Brady Mick stymied the Bemidji boys hockey players all night and his 22-save performance led the Warriors to a 4-0 victory over the Lumberjacks Saturday in Brainerd.
Bemidji’s offense generated numerous legitimate scoring opportunities but on each occasion Mick was in the right spot at the right time.
Grant Tharaldson tended the BHS net and he finished with 24 stops.
Both goaltenders were on their games in the opening period but Brainerd finally beat Tharaldson at the 12:15 mark when Bill Desrocher scored from the blue line.
The Warriors upped their lead to 3-0 with a pair of second-period goals, and both were scored by defensemen from the blue line.
Thomas Stoxen beat Tharaldson 7:48 into the stanza and the backbreaker came with 27 seconds remaining in the period when Landon Rivard scored.
Mick continued to thwart the Jacks in the final 17 minutes and late in the period Brainerd nailed the door shut when Jacob Ellingson scored on the power play.
Brainerd improved to 5-1 and extended its winning streak to five games. Bemidji dipped to 3-5.
The Jacks will return to duty Dec. 26 when they take on Buffalo in the opening round of a tournament hosted by Duluth Denfeld.
