BEMIDJI -- After losing a two-goal first-period lead, Bemidji High School hockey coach Wade Chiodo was just relieved to get out of Crookston with a victory.

Noah Burns scored the game-winning goal 17 seconds into the third period and the Lumberjacks defeated the Pirates 3-2.

"We won the game," Chiodo said. "We seemed like we just didn't have a lot of jump. It was one of those games where you walk out of there just glad to get a 'W.'"

The Lumberjacks, who won their third straight game to improve to 7-6, took an early 2-0 lead into the first intermission.

Parker Lucas scored with an assist from Jack Johnson at 9 minutes, 41 seconds to give BHS a 1-0 lead, then five minutes later Brent Isensee made it 2-0 with assists by Jake Leitner and Rocky Copinskey.

But that lead didn't hold, as Crookston's Harrison Bjorgo scored twice in the middle frame to even the score.

The sophomore scored 1:18 into the second with help from Doug Larson and Bobby Tiedemann then again at the 14:10 mark with assists from Chalndler St. Michael and Justin Cameron to complete the comeback for the Pirates (now 5-8-2).

However, Burns' goal -- with an assist from Sam Carlson -- turned out to be the game-winner after the Lumberjacks held on for the rest of the third period.

Grant Theraldson got the start in goal for Bemidji and stopped 23 shots for the Lumberjacks, who outshot the Pirates 34-25. Crookston's Adam Huglen made 31 saves.

Bemidji returns to the ice Saturday when they'll host Roseau at 3 p.m. at Bemidji Community Arena.
