BOYS GOLF: BHS ninth after day one
WALKER -- After a day at the Detroit Lakes Invitational, the Bemidji High School boys golf team sits in ninth place following Friday's round at Longbow Golf Club in Walker.
The Lumberjacks had a score of 348, just behind Park Rapids (351) and ahead of Albany (351).
Hosts Detroit Lakes are in first with a score of 307 while Fargo Davies had a score of 310.
"Some of our guys are close," BHS head coach Seth Knudson said. "We had a couple guys triple bogey and were off by a stroke or two a hole. That added up a bit."
The Lumberjacks were led by Matt Gregg's score of 83 on the par-72 course.
Riley Johnson of West Fargo and Fargo Shanley's Pat Trainer led all golfers with scores of 72.
The teams will return today for day two of the tournament, this time at Headwaters Golf Club in Park Rapids.
"I'd like to see some improvement tomorrow," Knudson said. "Hopefully we can jump a couple teams and be more competitive."
